Cass to hold second H1N1 clinic on Saturday in West Fargo

Fargo Cass Public Health will hold its second H1N1 flu vaccination clinic Saturday in Cass County.

The clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until the vaccine runs out, at West Fargo High School, 801 9th St. E.

Those eligible for the vaccine are children ages 6 months through 4 years, and children ages 5 through 18 years who have a chronic medical condition, such as asthma, cystic fibrosis or immune deficiency.

“We know that there were children who were not able to be done on Saturday, so we decided to go with sort of the same group but open it a little bit more for those older kids who have chronic medical conditions,” said Ruth Bachmeier, Fargo Cass Public Health director.

Fargo Cass Public Health distributed 2,150 doses of H1N1 vaccine last Saturday at Fargo North High School. Both the injectable and FluMist forms were available then.

At this upcoming clinic, there will be about 650 doses of only the injectable vaccine available.

Officials are not requiring proof of identification or medical records for those with chronic medical conditions, Bachmeier said.

“We trust that parents will bring children who truly do fall in those areas,” she said. “We believe that people won’t lie to us.”

Children younger than 9 must receive two doses of the vaccine, but the doses must be administered at least 21 days apart.

Plans are still being finalized for Saturday’s clinic, so Bachmeier said Tuesday that she didn’t know whether people would have to wait outside for the clinic.

However, officials ask that parents and children dress appropriately for the weather, as cold temperatures are expected.
